Gata has a very bold and outgoing temperament. There is nothing she won’t try in her own, very physical style. She has a beautifully expressive face and is known for her smile, which is sometimes seen as terrifying by people who don’t know her. She LOVES to work, heeling is essentially a reward for other behaviors. Her response to a sideways look from me is to jump to her feet, look at me with great intensity, as if she is asking “What game are we playing now?”. On top of all that, she LOVES to swim!
Her only real issue throughout her life was some sort of condition that made her prone to a very specific type of collapse when working at high arousal. Initially, this was limited to extended duration work during hot temperatures or high humidity. But, after we moved to the east coast with higher humidity it became harder to control. Ultimately, it forced her retirement from all competition. We did extensive testing and determined many things that it wasn’t but were never able to determine what caused this problem.

Tor is a special dog that has taught me a great deal. He came to me as a young dog, about 5 months, that needed some attention and socialization. He hasn’t willingly left my side since. He is definitely that one person dog that we all hear stories about. Despite that tendency, he likes other people, just not nearly as much as he likes me!
He is a dog that has all the tools to be a great bite sport dog, just a huge crushing grip and a love of the fight. Unfortunately, he is owned by me at a time in my life that didn’t really allow for the commitment to training that is required for those sports. On top of his temperament and characteristics, he is also a magnificent looking beast. Truly! A really special dog who never really got the chance to be all that he could be, he is nonetheless well loved and very happy about his lot in life.

Nina, oh my Nina … She is simply delightful! Sweetness, silliness, and clever manipulator all rolled into a single package. She walked into a household with 2 very strong dogs and proceeded to find a way to thrive and manipulate all of us! I can’t even adequately describe my reaction to watching her literally put her paw on Gata’s head and push her away while she was in my lap as a very young dog! I think Gata was just as surprised as I was, but she allowed it and that was just the way it all went from there. Gata was always top dog, but Nina usually ended up getting her way eventually.
Physically Nina reminds me of an ultra marathon runner – long-legged and lean. She has very little coat, which certainly enhances that impression. Consistent with that impression, she is FAST! As a protection sport prospect, she doesn’t have the grip of Tor. She likes the game, but she likes almost all games. She is my snuggle butt and has done everything she can think of to help me cope with Gata’s death.
I anticipate that she will be a fantastic breeding dog, as her mother, grandmother, and great grandmother before her …
